Kiani was a student at the Time Lord Academy who specialised in Gallifreyan criminology. She wrote a dissertation on post-Shada Time Lord imprisonment and wanted to interview the Eleven for her thesis. The Eleven thought that she was to become an Inquisitor. Once the Eleven had escaped, Farina thought she aided him and she was held in Cell 5-γ-9.
