While exploring the mysteries of the [[Martian Sphinx]], the Doctor, [[Louise (Dalek movies)|Louise]] and [[Susan (Dalek movies)|Susan]] are captured by [[Dalek]]s who have moved into the Sol system, closer to Earth. The Doctor and Susan escape with the help of the native [[Martian (Dr. Who Universe)|Martians]] and are taken to a city beneath the Sphinx where the Doctor activates a dormant fighting robot lying under the Sphinx itself. As the Doctor rescues Louise from the Daleks (who have learnt about TARDIS), the robot attacks and destroys the Daleks' Martian base.
