The beast was the name used by the platelayers for a European mole that had been hyper-evolved by a timeship as a self-defence mechanism. Greatly increased in size and resembling a bear, the beast scared away the builders and terrified the platelayers, whom it attacked it in the woods before the First Doctor returned it to its original size in its cave. Shrunk, it burrowed away. (AUDIO: The Horror at Bletchington Station)
