1972 was a year in which a number of events important to the production of Doctor Who and its spin-offs occurred.
- 13 March - Doctor Who production team are visited by Ministry of Defence officials, in response to the airing of The Sea Devils. This was due to the mistaken belief of the MoD that one of the designs in the show had been taken from active top-secret testing plans. [1]
