Loony Laffs was a one-page comic story original to the 1978 Doctor Who Annual. Unusually, it did not feature any established Doctor Who universe characters, having no apparent connection to it beyond the existence of various species of extraterrestrial life with an interest in the planet Earth.

Summary

Various species of aliens reflect on their relationship to Earth, including the strange beliefs humans hold about them, or successfully manage to infiltrate humanity (making strange observations).

  • One alien wonders why humans think extraterrestrials fly in flying saucers.

Notes

The Blake's 7 Summer Special remake of one of the jokes in Loony Laffs.
  • One of the jokes in this story was submitted by a fan called Philip Hardiker, of Manchester, to Blake's 7 Magazine, and turned into a comic strip in the 1982 Blake's 7 Summer Special. As the Blake's 7 Magazine crew were evidently unaware of the script's actual origin in Doctor Who Annual, the copyright status of this "remake" is dubious. This unexpected crossover between the Doctor Who and Blake's 7 publications was identified in 2021 by Stephen Cole.[1]
