- Poet Robert Burns is born in Alloway, Ayrshire, Scotland. The Second Doctor will quote one of Burns's poems to his companion Jamie McCrimmon, before remembering that Burns was a bit after Jamie's native year of 1746 (DW: The Underwater Menace)
