Language?

Hi, I'm not Scrooge, the admin you contacted, nor an admin in general so any admin could contradict me on this, but I did see your message and believe I know the answer. The wiki's discussions guidelines (found at https://tardis.fandom.com/d/g) state that:

Swearing for emphasis is allowed. Flagrantly gratuitous cursing is not.Discussions Guidelines

This means that the swearing in the post you are referring to is probably fine as it was used to emphasise how the media portrayed Peter Capaldi. I guess this could be seen as a personal attack against the media though so take what I say with a pinch of salt. I mostly just wanted to inform you of the rules regarding this.

As a side note, having the person edit out the swear word could actually count as a violation as the rules state:

You may only edit your own posts if:

  • No one has already quoted your comments. It's not fair to make a later poster look like they've misquoted you.

[...]Discussions Guidelines

You had already mentioned that they used a swearword and they would be changing that. I might be over-thinking the rules here though. Bongo50 (aka Bongolium500) 16:30, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

User:Bongolium500's explanations are largely correct. I don't think there are T:NPA concerns at play here: "personal attacks against the media" would be an oxymoron, after all. A personal attack is an attack on an individual, not against a piece of media or an idea. It is recommended that a civil attitude be kept in any case, but the hard rules of T:NPA apply only to attacks on individuals.
Also, while general profanities are permitted so long as they are not gratuitous or in the context of a personal attack, note that a certain category of "very bad words" (namely slurs) is of course prohibited. Scrooge MacDuck 16:40, 7 August 2021 (UTC)

Thank you both for the clarification! Very helpful! :) -DoctorRey12
