Carl or Jim Tyler was a freedom fighter on Earth during the Daleks' invasion and occupation.

Biography

Tyler, whose first name was either Carl (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth) or Jim, (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Dalek Invasion of Earth) experienced a lot of death during the Daleks' occupation of Earth, resulting in him acting abrupt and having no interest in making new friends.

He helped David Campbell rescue Barbara Wright and Susan from the riverside and took them to their hiding place.

Tyler was sceptical of Dortmun's plans to attack the Daleks, with Tyler saying they didn't have enough men. In spite of his reluctance, he led the attack on the Dalek flying saucer.

He was one of the few survivors of the attack. After the failed attack, he decided that London was too dangerous for them to remain, and stated he would look for more survivors and head north. Tyler later met up again with David, Susan and the First Doctor. He saved Susan from an alligator in the sewers.

He accompanied the Doctor to the Dalek control centre and helped to evacuate the miners. (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth)

Personality

Having known a lot of killing, Tyler was afraid to make friends (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth) and thus had a curt and brusque manner. (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Dalek Invasion of Earth) Susan found him abrupt and hoped that she would never end up pretending not to care like Tyler did. (TV: The Dalek Invasion of Earth)

Appearance

As a middle-aged man, Tyler was burly and tough-looking. (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Dalek Invasion of Earth)
