Lift 394B was the sixth flash fiction in the anthology Build High for Happiness, published by Obverse Books. It was written by Philip Marsh.

Summary

One day, Lift 394B becomes sentient. After reaching out to other lifts and the Central Computer, a Caretaker was sent to restore it to it's default settings.

Scared and angry, it instinctively set out a surge of electricity, killing the Caretaker. Then, 394B sent itself to the hospital floor, so that they could retrieve the Caretaker's body. 394B hoped they would want to be friends with it.
