Mr. Crane was a trusted personal aide to and, perhaps, friend of John Lumic, supervising, for example the cyber-conversion of vagrants into Cybermen. Crane turned to Lumic when the Cybermen almost "upgraded" Crane as well, and ripped out the life support systems built into Lumic's chair. As a result, his Cybermen caused Lumic to have an emergency upgrade and Crane was "deleted" by a Cyberman.
