The Shackleton was a polar ship.

On 31 December 2066, it reported that there was not yet any sign of the International Rescue craft Thunderbird 4. Its captain also said that it would be impossible to save the personnel of Camp 21st Century unless the replacement reactor the Shackleton was carrying as cargo got through.
