In the 38th century, Grunts were genetically created humans with low intelligence used for menial tasks. They could become full-grown adults in less than five years. A Grunt numbered 474 was stationed on the Le Verrier space station. They were distinguished by markings on their faces, and due to their limited speech capacity, would be unable to articulate language very well and would frequently leave out words when speaking to someone. Grunts could also be programmed to respond to any physical threat.

Clara Oswald was disgusted by the concept of them. (TV: Sleep No More)

In 4126, Mr Bartle said that the military would always need more Grunts. (TV: Planet of the Ood)
