Echoes of Future Past was a Brief Encounter short story published in DWM 181. It tries to explain the First Doctor's involvement with the Hand of Omega as a gambit by the Seventh Doctor, creating an ontological paradox.
Plot
The First Doctor, walking to take Susan home from school, bumps into the Seventh Doctor, who was waiting in a dark street. The Seventh Doctor gives him the Hand of Omega, claiming that it "knows what to do", and leaves without giving any other information about himself, leaving the First Doctor confused.
Characters
References
- Susan's bedroom is decorated with pictures of "gaudy pop stars".
- A TARDIS will assault the mind of anyone but its owner and his familiars. The Doctor's TARDIS did this to the Doctor when he stole it, resulting in memory loss.
Notes
- This story contradicts the comic story Time & Time Again, the novel Lungbarrow, and the audio story The Beginning, all of which state that the Doctor took the Hand of Omega with him when he left Gallifrey.
Continuity
- The Seventh Doctor states that he was once a pioneer among his own people. (TV: The Daleks)
