The Roswell crash, (TV: Dreamland) also known as the Roswell incident, (PROSE: The Time Traveller's Almanac) was an event in 1947 in which an alien spaceship crashed in Roswell, New Mexico.
History
The incident took place in July 1947. The US military recovered what it claimed was a research balloon from a ranch near Roswell, New Mexico. There was, however, much speculation that what had actually been captured - and concealed - was the debris from an alien spacecraft that had crash-landed on Earth. (PROSE: The Time Traveller's Almanac)
The Tenth Doctor described the event as an "alien fender-bender", (PROSE: Peacemaker) a Nedenah ship was damaged and crashed to Earth. The humanoid aliens were later made infamous by UFO lore as "the Greys". (PROSE: The Devil Goblins from Neptune)
One account suggests that Seruba Velak's spaceship was the ship that crashed in 1947. (TV: Dreamland) Another account suggests that it was the Tzun who crashed at Roswell. (PROSE: First Frontier)
The crash became a cause celebre for decades among UFO and conspiracy theorists, due to government attempts at covering up the incident after it had been reported in the press. (TV: Dreamland)
Three survivors were taken by the American government to a secret base to be studied. The Americans who discovered the ship were able to strip it for parts, and created many new devices derived from the technology. Broadband internet was derived from a mileometer found in the crash. They were also able to reverse engineer and recreate the schematics for the ship. (TV: Dalek)
The incident purportedly led to the creation of a top secret government organisation known as Majestic-12. (TV: Enemy of the Bane)
Androvax stated that the ship that the Nanoforms were building for him was a recreation of the spacecraft that had crashed in Roswell. (TV: Prisoner of the Judoon)
The crash was mentioned in a document on the wall of Sarah Jane Smith's attic at 13 Bannerman Road. Sarah Jane seemed to think of it as a minor event in the history of human-alien contact. (TV: Enemy of the Bane)
Ant & Dec starred in a film about the faking of Roswell footage. (PROSE: Slow Decay)
