James MacFarlane was a journalist who travelled to Victorian Edinburgh in the 1890s to investigate rumours regarding vampires. He encountered the The Eighth Doctor there and they uncovered a den of vampires but found they were innocent. In actuality a Bowship had been mentally influencing the people of Edinburgh.
