Lieutenant Dan Galloway was the weapons officer of the Marine Space Corps expedition to Exxilon. He assumed control of the party after the death of the previous two commanders, as was his right by rank. However, Captain Richard Railton ordered him to allow Peter Hamilton to take command, as Railton didn't feel Galloway had the requisite temperament. Galloway disobeyed, allowing no one to know the nature of Railton's final order. Railton's concerns were legitimate. Galloway's brief command was characterized by ruthless logic. He made deals with the Daleks that were entirely unsavory, promising to essentially commit his forces to a kind of genocide in exchange for their assistance in getting Exxilon's parrinium to the millions of plague victims off-world who required it. He showed a disdain for the native Exxilons that could easily have been called xenophobic. Compared with the humans who needed the cure parrinium offered, Galloway explicitly considered the Exxilons too "primitive" to worry about. When the Daleks broke the deal he had negotiated, Galloway turned on them, as well. Still committed to his mission above all else, he stowed away on the Dalek ship, and manually detonated a bomb that destroyed the ship. In so doing, he sacrificed his own life, and cleared the way for further Marine Space Corps missions to Exxilon. (DW: Death to the Daleks)
