Lieutenant Beresford was the UNIT officer brought in to replace Mike Yates when he was promoted to Captain. (PROSE: The Face of the Enemy)
Biography
Beresford was assigned by Brigadier Letbridge-Stewart to conduct surveillance on Minister Carswell. (PROSE: The Face of the Enemy)
Later, he had been promoted to Major and was in charge of UNIT while the Brigadier was away in Geneva. Beresford was summoned by Sir Colin Thackeray of the World Ecology Bureau (WEB) to deal with the threat of the Krynoid which had been Arnold Keeler.
On the Fourth Doctor's advice, Beresford called in an RAF aerial attack to bomb the Chase Mansion, destroying the Krynoid. (TV: The Seeds of Doom)
Behind the scenes
- The character of Major Beresford was created for The Seeds of Doom as UNIT appeared only in parts five and six, and it was felt there was too little material to warrant bringing back Nicholas Courtney as the Brigadier.
