Starfall was a mining planet near the Gerossic Rift. Large parts of the planet were under the influence of a zeg, a zone of electromagnetic radiation that interfered with any electrical circuits. As a result, advanced steam-powered technology was developed on Starfall. Scotia was a mining colony outside the zeg.
