The Dreadnought was a class of warship developed by the United Kingdom for the Royal Navy in 1906.
In January 1906, the Dreadnought plans were stolen by time-travelling alien beings masquerading as the Gledhill family. They sought to pass the plans to the Germans in order to prevent an arms race which became responsible for Earth's proliferation. Without it, the planet would be vulnerable to extra-terrestrial invasion and colonisation. The First Doctor, Steven Taylor and Ruby Watkins recovered the plans and returned them to the Admiralty.
The Dreadnought was launched in February of that year, sparking the arms race which eventually led to the First World War, the atomic bomb and the Cold War. (AUDIO: Peace in Our Time)
The first of its class was named the HMS Dreadnought. (PROSE: Just War)
