Battle of Talavera

The Battle of Talavera was a battle in the Peninsular War. It was considered a significant victory for the Duke of Wellington's forces.

During the Battle, a French Eagle was captured by Captain Sharpe of the South Essex. (PROSE: A Funny Turn)

Behind the scenes

The real world battle occurred from 27-28 July 1809.

The reference to Captain Sharpe capturing a French Eagle during the Battle originates in the Sharpe series of novels by Bernard Cornwell.
