Reading Gaol was a prison in Reading.
Oscar Wilde served a sentence at the prison in May 1897. At this time, the prison stuck to a routine of hard manual labour, one hours' exercise daily and a bowl of gruel every lunchtime. Orphan children were also locked up for snaring rabbits.
