USS Eldridge
The Eldridge (AUDIO: The Macros)

The USS Eldridge was a United States Navy ship used in Earth's Second World War to escort freighters to North Africa and Europe.

History[[edit] | [edit source]]

The USS Eldridge was a US Navy ship launched on 25 July 1943. It escorted vital supply ships to North Africa and Europe during the Second World War. (GAME: Shadows of the Vashta Nerada [+]Loading...["Shadows of the Vashta Nerada (video game)"])

It was part of the "Philadelphia Experiment" in 1943, which tried to make the ship invisible. Supposedly, a powerful electromagnetic device bent light around the ship to make it invisible. (AUDIO: The Macros) According to rumour, it vanished and was teleported 200 miles away, before returning, briefly travelling back in time. (GAME: Shadows of the Vashta Nerada [+]Loading...["Shadows of the Vashta Nerada (video game)"]) The crew members who didn't die were driven insane. The US government tried to stop the project, but were thwarted when the ship fell through a dimensional rift and ended up on the sea floor. (AUDIO: The Macros) The US Navy insisted that this was a hoax. (GAME: Shadows of the Vashta Nerada [+]Loading...["Shadows of the Vashta Nerada (video game)"])

The ship vanished, reappearing underwater near the former site of submerged London in the 23rd century. It let loose a blast of vortron energy, which poisoned people on the nearby underwater base Poseidon 8. The ship had left a dimensional vortex open, bringing the Vashta Nerada and an alien shark through the gateway. The Eleventh Doctor concocted a cure for the vortron radiation poisoning and closed the gateway. (GAME: Shadows of the Vashta Nerada)
