Fleet Street

Fleet Street was a street in London. It was named after the River Fleet, which by the 20th century flowed underneath the ground that Fleet Street was on. (AUDIO: Dead London) It was sometimes used as a metonym for the press.

In the 15th century, the Kingmaker was located on Fleet Street. (AUDIO: The Kingmaker)

Edward Travers' 1935 expedition to Tibet was funded by an editor who worked on Fleet Street. (PROSE: Doctor Who and the Abominable Snowmen)

In the late 20th century, Fleet Street was renowned as the home of newspaper journalism. James Stevens arrived there in 1968 and worked his way up to a job at the Daily Chronicle. (PROSE: Who Killed Kennedy)
