He was also reportedly one of Russell T. Davies' choices to play the Tenth Doctor. Notable film appearances include The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005), Love Actually, The Boat that Rocked and the second and third installments of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
