A cyborg was a cybernetic organism, which was a being that was composed of both natural and artificial systems, ranging from prosthetics to implants to entirely mechanical casings operated by or sustaining the organic parts of that particular entity.

Examples of cyborgs were sometimes victims of traumatic injury in which their biological bodies were damaged beyond their ability to heal. (DW: The Pirate Planet, Voyage of the Damned)

Various cyborgs have emotion's, and others do not. Bannakaffalatta had emotional feelings of attraction, kindness, attitude, self-sacrafice, humour and taking offence (DW: Voyage of the Damned). But on the other hand, the Cybus Industries Cybermen had their emotions removed, by an emotional inhibitor placed within their chest plate, because emotions would "destroy" them. This was proved correct when The Doctor stopped the inhibitors from working, causing the Cybermen, who were once human, to see their reflection's, realise they were no longer human, much to their upset, causing their heads to explode. (DW: The Age of Steel) This suggests that some cybernetic bodies are resistant to emotions, much like the human body, whereas others are not.

Both the Mondasian Cybermen and Cybus Cybermen were examples of cyborgs which, due to widespread use of standard parts, could be considered a race.

On the planet Sto, cyborgs were discriminated against, a prime example being the case of Max Capricorn or Bannakaffalatta. Although it was confirmed by Astrid Peth that Cyborg's were getting equal right's during that time (e.g they could get married). It was also revealed by Bannakaffalatta, that he became a cyborg because he had an accident meaning that organic beings could become cyborgs due to injury or death. (DW: Voyage of the Damned)

Sometimes pure robots such as K9 Mark 2 and CCPCs were nevertheless referred to as Cyborgs. (K9TV: Liberation, The Bounty Hunter, Mutant Copper) K9 himself commonly referred to himself as a cybernetic organism. (K9TV: The Korven, Robot Gladiators)

Status

Throughout the universe, Cyborgs were found in various places. In Christmas 2008 , cyborgs were aboard the Starship Titanic, ([[Max Capricorn|Max

Max Capricorn lived in a society that hated cyborgs, this led him to go into hiding aboard the Starship Titanic, where he plotted revenge of the organics, he intended to use the Titanic to wipe out all life on Earth, killing everyone inside the ship.

Capricorn]] and Bannakaffalatta) , throughout the episode, it was spoken of how the society of the time, despised cyborgs, although it was also described how cyborgs were getting equal rights to organic's (e.g rights to marry).

It was also common that cyborgs were feared throughout the universe. (The Cybermen). The Cybermen caused terror throughout the universe (invading worlds, developing technology to destroy planets, converting organics into themselves, killing innocent people, taking control os bases and spaceships, attempting to wipe out humanity ect). During the events of DW: Earthshock it was made clear that they were being plotted against, hence their attempts to wipe out humanity.

Many cyborgs are used by organics as a workforce. (Toclafane, Daleks) The Toclafane were used by the Master to invade the world in the year 2008. The Toclafane were used to decimate 1/10th of the human population, as well as building rockets to go to war with the universe. Other cyborgs such as the Winder's and the Dragon (Dragonfire) were used for various organic purposes.

Impact on organics

Some cyborgs had rather, befriended organic life-forms , and formed attractions with them, whereas others had terrorised the lives

of organics. The Cybermen for example, had made numerous attempts, and in many cases suceeded, in dominating, converting and killing organics. They had converted many organics into themselves, and removed their emotions, and in many cases, organics who are not compatible, or have other uses, had ended up being killed, painfully in many circumstances, by the Cybermen.

The Daleks have also had an impact on the universe, they have exterminated billions of organics, as well as many cyborgs, some of which are Daleks themselves. They have wiped out, or contributed to wiping out whole species (Time Lords, Dalek-Humans, Human-Daleks) whereas they have also created new organics such as Dalek-Humans and Pig Slaves. (DW: Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks) Daleks were feared throughout the universe , have destroyed worlds and species, and nearly destroyed every single universe.

Daleks were originally humanoid organics, but then turned themselves into mutants, encased in polycarbide armour, in order to survive a nuclear war and to be efficient killing machines so that they could wipe out all life, but themselves and become the dominant race in the universe. (DW: The Daleks, (DW: Genesis of the Daleks)

Humanoids were'nt the only ones to become cyborgs, the same thing has happened with other aliens, some of which are primitive animals like cats and dogs.

Various alien races have become cyborgs in the past. The Zocci Bannakaffalatta was one, humans were another. During the events of The Next Doctor, The Cybus Cybermen had produced a "primitive conversion" of sort's, according to The Tenth Doctor, they had taken the brain of a cat or a dog and used it to create a less intelligent, more primitive, and more aggresive and dangerous form of Cyberman, known as the Cybershade. The Cybermen and Daleks were both humanoids in the beggining.

Abilities

Cyborgs often pocessed abilities which organics didn't have. Bannakaffalatta was able to create an Electromagnetic pulse, deactivating all Hosts nearby, to the cost of his own life. Cybermen pocessed great amounts of strength, they could electrocute people, they could utilise arm-mounted guns, or kill people by unleashing a huge burst of light. The Cybermen were also extremely intelligent, far more than humans. Cyborgs could also be better at surviving self injury and could also live longer than most organics

Technology

Cyborgs also poccessed various kinds of technology. The Mondasian Cybermen, and later the Cybus Cybermen, pocessed spacecraft, such as "Cyberships". The Mondasian Cybermen owned various kinds of guns. Bannakaffalatta, and various other cyborgs of the time of Voyage of the Damned, pocessed EMP transmitters which kept themselves alive. The Cybermen also pocessed technology to convert others into Cybermen. The Daleks also pocessed spacecraft, and weapons capable of destroying planets, stars, people and whole universes. The Daleks once owned a "Reality Bomb", capable of destroying reality.

Davros, was originally a humanoid, but was injured, and had a life support system, mechanical eye, a robotic hand that shoots electricity, and a travel machine wired up to his organic body.

There were many kinds of cyborg. There have been Cybermen, who were once human, or in some cases other organic species, who then became robots, but with organic tissue inside (the skull, the brain, flesh), there was one example in Torchwood (Cyberwoman), where a human female was half-converted into a Cyberman, a "Cyberwoman"

There were kinds such as Bannakaffalatta or Davros who were originally healthy, 100 % organics, but had accidents, and had to replace certain parts with cybernetic parts.

Then there were kinds such as the Daleks, who evolved, or rather devolved into mutants, then wired themselves up to technology.

A race of cyborgs, who worked for The Shadow Proclamation, they were similar ,or may have even been spaceships, with their mechanical parts wired up to an apparantly organic eye.

The Cyberwoman, a cyborg, half-converted Cyberman, was moved by her boyfriend Ianto Jones to Torchwood Three, based in Cardiff, after the events of DW: Doomsday, where Ianto had hoped he could save her, and turn her completely human again.
