Overview
- Following the broadcast of DW:Time and the Rani, Doctor Who Magazine (DWM) followed by changing the Doctor in their comic strip from the Sixth Doctor to the Seventh Doctor.
- The cancellation of the television series, in 1989 led to much uncertainty with regards to the Doctors future travels, the future of DWM and of course, the direction for the comic strip adventures.
- During this period the Seventh Doctor's comic strip adventures appeared in a number of other Marvel magazine titles, mainly as one-off stories, with no continuity or companions and aimed at a much younger audience than had been aimed at in recent years. Most of these stories from other Marvel titles were later reprinted in the Doctor Who Magazine itself.
- With the only new stories of the Doctor coming from Virgin Publishing's New Adventures there was a conscious effort in the mid 90s towards intermixing the Virgin New Adventures (NA) universe with the Doctor Who Magazine comic strip stories.
- These stories featured Ace (following her stint in the Spacefleet which occurred in the New Adventures between NA:Love and War and NA: Deceit), Bernice Summerfield and the Seventh Doctor.
- Following the New Adventures crossover stories the comic strips returned to a Doctor / Ace narrative structure.
