Tigilinus was a minister and favourite of the emperor Nero. He was a native of Agrigentum, of humble origin and possibly of Greek descent.
The First Doctor, Barbara Wright, Ian Chesterton, and Vicki encountered him in the year 64. (DW: The Romans)
Behind the scenes
- History records his name as being Gaius Ophonius Tigellinus, also known as Sophonius Tigellinus, rather than this story's credits which spell his name Tigilinus.
- He is also the first "comedy death" in the show, according to DWM, 393.
