If Torchwood (London and Scotland at least) were sworn enemies of the Doctor why didn't they take advantage of his being grounded on Earth during the Pertwee years to intercept him? Was Lethbridge-Stewart protecting the Doctor somehow or did they somehow not realize the UNIT Scientific Advisor Dr. John Smith was actually *the* Doctor?

A related question - if Jack was stranded on Earth for over a century waiting for the Doctor why didn't he pay a visit to the Third Doctor when he was at UNIT? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Easy bit first: Jack said: I waited nearly two hundred years waiting for a version of you that coincided with me. The Third Doctor does not coincide with him.

Hard Bit: Maybe Jack knew about the Doctor being there, and may have steered Torchwood away from him? He was a part of Torchwood then, was he not? Feumas 00:04, February 15, 2010 (UTC)

As said above, Jack clearly said he was waiting for an incarnation of the Doctor that post-dated his meeting with the Ninth Doctor to avoid messing with the Doctor's personal timeline. Jack had access to everything about the Doctor and his interactions with Earth from the Torchwood files, and therefore knew not to interact. Jack was also told directly by a psycic little girl that he would need to wait a century for the right Doctor. Because he is a friend of the Doctor and worked for Torchwood, he would have stopped them interacting with him and strayed them away from him. Plus, Torchwood had other things to deal with (i.e. alien threats). Delton Menace 00:48, February 15, 2010 (UTC)
