Thorne was an Inspector in the The Department who sided with Lomax's plan for the Korven invasion of Earth, he was implanted with Meron DNA. He was Governor of Dauntless Prison and later replaced a disgraced Inspector Drake as The Departments head of Public Order.
Biography
Thorne looked almost identical to his supposed great-grandfather, Barker. (K9TV: The Cambridge Spy)
Sometime after The Department was created, the dictator in charge of the British government, Lomax, who was secretly plotting the invasion of Earth by his own kind, the Korven, needed an ally on Earth so he came to Thorne. Thorne joined forces with Lomax as he made it a policy to be with the winning side and was implanted with Meron DNA by the Korven, effectively turning him into one. (K9TV: The Eclipse of the Korven) Comments made by June Turner suggested that Thorne himself had a role in the production of the CCPC. (K9TV: The Last Precinct)
It is possible Barker's genetic traits were passed via spatial genetic multiplicity to Thorne.
When Starkey and Darius Pike were imprisoned in Dauntless Prison to track the Jixen. Thorne personally thrown them in a cell with Mr. Wiffy. When Inspector June Turner head of the Alien Activities section visited the prison, Thorne was persistant at stating his authority. When the Jixen ran riot through the prison Thorne locked himself and June in his office. However when she found out K9 was in the prison she demanded that Thorne release the locks, she took the locking device and unlocked the door herself. She promised Thorne that he would "never darken these doors again", as she left Thorne promised she would pay for this one day.(K9TV: Liberation)
When he refused to release the locks, his hand was shown to be discoloured and shaking, most likely as a result of his true form breaking through.
After Drake almost caused the destruction of humanity by using the Hunger. Lomax decided Drake would be moved on to other duties. He then gave his job as head of security to Thorne, June was shocked that Thorne was replacing him. (K9TV: Black Hunger)
Thorne set his sights on an Ukkan library card acquired by the Department, as prison numbers were rising he wanted to use Ukkan technology to dump them on Urlic. A prison which required "no upkeep, no wardens, no exercise yard, no ping-pong tables, no parole," the prisoners would be warehoused for ever. He decided the first inmate would be Starkey, he lured him with Department HQ's first careers day. As Thorne played along with his scheme, Starkey and Darius sneaked into his office. When Starkey saw the card's screen he was sucked into it. Darius was able to bring it to Gryffen without looking at it, K9 explained the situation to Gryffen and suspected it was a set up by Thorne. Using a mirror, Gryffen, Darius and K9 looked at the Library card to find that Starkey was trapped on Urlic. K9 explained to Gryffen and Darius about the Ukkans. June arrived in Thorne's office and asked him what he was doing with the Library card. He told her he was exploring it's properties for use by the Department, something he said she should have done. June warned him it was extremely dangerous and three scientists have been lost, he assured her that the subject he used was completely expendable. June spotted the base of the card on Thorne's desk and asked him where the card was, Thorne merely smiled. An Ukkan Librarian, Yssaringintinka arrived to assist them. However she could only get Starkey out with the Plinth of the card. She gave the team purple goggles which will allow them to look at the card without being sucked in and talk to Starkey. June reported to Lomax and warned Thorne that he wanted a good explanation as to why Thorne interferred with alien technology. He explained that as prison numbers are rising he wanted to use Ukkan technology to dump them on other planets, June dismissed him as insane, he said he may be but he's definitely in charge. She asked where the card was, he replied not far away. She warns him that Lomax wanted the card back in twelve hours or Thorne would be forced to resign. K9 and the team decided to do a deal with Thorne, offered him the card if he gave them the plinth to get Starkey out. Gryffen argued he'll never keep his side of the bargain, Darius suggested they doublecross him. Gryffen was contacted by Thorne who told him he had something of his and he wanted it back and he was willing to use force to get it. K9 interrupted and told him the facts, Thorne stumbled across technology he wanted to exploit but doesn't know how so he set up an entrapment and he could do nothing with the technology unless he had more information. He told him about the Ukkan goggles and offered him Yssaringintinka as a consultant. K9 and the team tricked Thorne into giving it to them so they could release Starkey then give the card to him, they gave him a pair of goggles (which Yssaringintinka disabled) and he was transported to the planet, he double crossed them as well as there was only a brick in the box he had. On Urlic, Thorne told him of his plan to turn the planet into a prison colony and the first inmate will be Starkey, Starkey told Thorne he's the second. Thorne was contacted by June, he demanded that she get him out of there, but as she noted he was in no position to demand. He warned her not to make him angry, she told him to be polite or he'd stay there for the rest of his life. June went to Thorne's office in Department HQ and took the plinth. When Thorne spotted Starkey drinking from his water bottle he said he was thirsty as well. Starkey told him he didn't care, Thorne told him he should be grateful as if it weren't for him and the Department he'd have nothing to rebel against. Starkey said he'd be grateful if Thorne dressed better as he called his shirt "skanky" and he looked like he was "selling funeral insurance". June arrived at the house and gave Yssaringintinka the plinth, with only three minutes until the link closed. The position Starkey and Thorne were standing was crucial for the extraction to be successful. As Starkey and Thorne foght over the water, Yssaringintinka told them where to stand and the others told them to stop fighting. Thorne was persistant but Gryffen warned him to do what Yssaringintinka instructed. She said that the extractor didn't work too well with two seperate entities, she told them to put their arms around each other. Thorne was shocked at this, Starkey grabbed Thorne and they were sent back into the House. When Thorne threatened to have everyone arrested, Yssaringintinka threatened to erase him if he harmed anyone. She told him he deserves erasure for his overdue Library card alone. She remarked that although it was a pleasure retireving Starkey she couldn't says the same for "this ugly boney man" and warned him she had her eye on him. (K9TV: Lost Library of Ukko)
Behind June's Back, Thorne had several CCPC's experimented on with human genetics. Birdie, the only one successful, escaped from the laboratories where he was later found by K9 and his friends. When June heard Starkey suggest Thorne was responsible, she asked him, he said it was an interesting story but didn't deny it as it was his policy to neither deny or confirm. June was suspicious as Thorne had CCPCs scouring London for the rogue cyborg, he told her the public could be in danger and it was his duty to find it. She warned him that if she found out he was experimenting with the CCPC the people will know he was responsible, he told her if any experiments gone on they were terminated now along with any evidence, except for the cyborg as June noted. When she left, Thorne ordered all CCPC units to override all existing command protocols and gave them a new priority, to locate Birdie. K9 suggested that Birdie be converted to fully robot and took a CCPC control cortex from Department HQ (using Birdie's identity chip) so Gryffen could begin the operation. Thorne was alerted by a CCPC that a CCPC's identity chip was activated and exited Department HQ. Gryffen started to modify him back to a Cyborg and detached his head but was interrupted by a call at the door by Thorne and his CCPCs, demanding to enter or he'll break the door down. Gryffen told Darius and K9 to hide Birdie who reattached his head. A CCPC showed Thorne the cutting equipment Gryffen used on Birdie, Jorjie said they were giving Starkey a haircut. Thorne ordered the CCPCs to arrest them and they put them in cuffs. Thorne ordered them to find Birdie and to tear the place apart. Darius, K9 and Birdie hid in the garage, K9 had a plan and told Darius to push the the car into the lane, as the CCPCs searched they reported nothing to find to Thorne. He told them to keep searching, he said there will be no reward until it is found, making Jorjie curious. Thorne intercepted Birdie's signal and ordered all CCPCs to the garage. They arrived, only to see K9 with Birdie's voice, Thorne realised they're escaping. Jorjie realised Marcus told Thorne Birdie was in the house, thats why he wanted Birdie to be kept here. Thorne and his CCPCs arrived, he assured them that Birdie, K9 and Darius won't get far. Gryffen told Thorne to remove the cuffs and asked what the charge is, Starkey said there's no evidence of Birdie. Thorne showed Gryffen the stolen cortex, Gryffen jokingly thanked him for the loaner. Thorne accused Gryffen that K9 broke into Department HQ and stole property, Gryffen corrected him as he borrowed it and he didn't break in he entered. Using a stolen identity chip, as Thorne pointed out. Gryffen again asked him for evidence as Starkey said there's no law against borrowing cortexes. Thorne said he has a witness, Marcus. Jorjie made up a story that Marcus had him on and was trying to make a fool of the Deparmtent as he always did, Marcus asked for his reward. Marcus told him that Birdie was here, Thorne was outraged at this new name while the others claimed he made it up. Thorne demanded that Marcus tell him where he was, Marcus told him he didn't know. Thorne then left and Darius was successful in helping Birdie escape. (K9TV: Mutant Copper)
Thorne then, with the help of John, a former Department custodian and Vice-President of Greenroom Entertainment. Used the last Etydion in a plot to telepathically control children, however it backfired and it started converting 20 million of Britain's children to Etydions. June, Starkey and K9 went to Greenroom HQ, when June told John to go to level three and shut the broadcast down, he told her there was no need as they were on level three. She argued that nothing was being broadcast from here and warned him not to mess with her, Thorne then revealed himself. K9 searched for the Etydion as Starkey followed him. They arrived in a darkened room and spotted the Etydion. When the light was turned on and Starkey and K9 hid as Thorne showed June the Etydion on the screen. This shocked her, she warned Thorne that anyone found abducting aliens, sheltering or harvesting secrets about technology from an extra-terrestrial could be secretly tried and convicted by the Department. John told her that he wasn't abducted, he offered himself to them as it was frightened and sick when he came, he was given the home it wanted. In gratitude, it gave Greenroom Entertainment a means to reach it's target audience in ways that they never dreamt was possible. The target audience being Children, the future, the VR games were the first step in reaching them. A networked VR broadcast coupled with a mild telepathic signal to draw and hold the audience. For the kind of children every educator and every parent wanted, good children. As Thorne told June, good and quiet children made good and quiet citizens. John signaled the Etydion as Thorne told June it's what they have been working for, a population that will be happy, content and untroubled, June argued that it's because they can't think. Thorne called it an "overrated pastime", despite K9's warnings Starkey decided to show himself and is followed by K9. K9 told the Etydion to release Starkey from his control. When Gryffen shown June Jorjie and Darius mutating, she was heartbroken at what wass happening to them, she showed Thorne what his broadcast was doing. Thorne gave in and told John to shut the transmission down. When John didn't comply, Thorne ordered him. John asked him for the magic word, Thorne threatened him with violence if he didn't obey. He told Thorne and June that he wanted 50 million credits to end the transmission. Thorne realised he was being blackmailed, John told him to remember before he bounced his "little head", he was the only one who knew how the transmission works. Thorne refused to give in, June demanded he gave it to him. He told her the Department will be bankrupt if he authorised the transfer. June explained that the Department won't be needed as there will be no human population to protect, she begged him to save Jorjie. Thorne gave in and announced the credits will be transferred once the transmission ends. When John delayed, Thorne and June demands he ends the transmission now, he told them he's trying to but something is wrong, the creature won't respond. Starkey (under the Etydion's control) pulled the wires connecting it, now John had no control. John didn't understand what's happening but June did, he was been outsmarted and it was tricking him, neither John or Thorne were in control. As June went to the presentation room, Thorne told John that he would see his containment sectors from the inside. The Etydion released him Starkey after K9 threatened him, when June and Thorne arrived, K9 told them the Etydion is irreplacable as it is the last of it's species. June told Thorne he had to destroy it, K9 told them the Etydion planned to make Earth it's new home and populate it with it's own kind and he used the Etydion DNA in the headsets to amplify the signal. Thorne tried to kill it but the Etydion effected him with it's mental powers and knocked him out, June was able to convince it to reverse what it was doing by showing what it caused. (K9TV: The Custodians)
Thorne was on station at the Department Mobile HQ when Taphony escaped from her prison. He ordered that the perimeter was sealed and make sure no-one entered or left the prison. June arrived and said it was an internal security matter, Thorne told her that it was clearly engineered from outside the prison. Thorne explained to June the prisoner was a maximum security inmate associated with Project Taphony. (K9TV: Taphony and the Time Loop)
Lomax then ordered Thorne to acquire K9's regeneration unit, Thorne teamed up with Freddie Maxwell and modified a CCPC to become the Pain-Maker in his Crashclub, old Robots modified and being forced to fight in an arena for the entertainment of rich "toffs", since Freddie's entertainment used illegal technology he was hardly in position to argue. Thorne's plan was for K9 to investigate Crashclub so Thorne could destroy him using Pain-Maker. Pain-Maker was no match for K9, but laced with the highly explosive Solarmite. K9 did so, with the help of Darius who dealed with Freddie and Starkey, who posed as a robotics expert. K9 was soon introduced to the friendly robot Clowns Chuckles and Boris and the threatening Pain-Maker. Thorne refused to have Pain-Maker fight K9 for his first match, instead he fought Boris, who he destroyed, so that K9 would destroy Pain-Maker in anger so it would take K9 with him. Gryffen decided to threaten his finances to shake him up enough to get him out of his office. Starkey had Jorjie go undercover as a taxwoman, when she got Freddie to go get some reciepts, Darius arrived and after a long search Jorjie found Freddie's business chip under his bowl of Peanuts, Starkey arrived soon after. Thorne arrived with Freddie and caught the three, revealing that he was working with him and had planned for them to come. The Pain-Maker flashed Boris' hankerchief around, angering K9 who prepared to fire. The kids tried to warn him but they couldn't speak to him. The Pain-Maker attacked K9 but he hovered and evaded every assault, K9 soon refused to fight him as Starkey noted he was too decent to act they way Thorne would. Thorne initiated the Pain-Maker's self-destruct sequence however K9 scanned it and detected the Solarmite. When it detonated, Thorne ordered the CCPCs to go down there and recover anything they could find, K9 arrived soon after having managed to escape the explosion. K9 explained that although Solarmite would damage him, the only explosive force capable of destroying him would be his self-destruct, revealing Thorne's plan would never work. Freddie asked when he and Thorne would get together to build his new arena, Thorne however denied he was here, he terminated the deal and Freddie would soon be sent to prison. Thorne's revelation left the team shocked, as the only people who witnessed K9's regeneration were them. At the Department Mobile HQ, Thorne spoke with Lomax and assured him that the Department would have no recorded connection with Crashclub and that Freddie will take the whole fall. He told Thorne that as K9 knew of Thorne's intent now it would make acquiring it harder, Thorne promised they would gain it and their plans would succeed. Lomax left it with him and ordered to use all the powers at his disposal, Thorne assured that he intended to. (K9TV: Robot Gladiators)
When Gryffen told June that he needed to get to the site of the crashed fallen angel in Canada as he could get the Space-Time Manipulator working properly if he acquired the temporal stabiliser. Thorne informed Lomax of this, Lomax asked Thorne if he thought he was right. He replied that he seemed very excited about it and said it was worth a shot. Lomax told Thorne to assist him in every way possible, to travel with him to the site and keep an eye on him at all times as they didn't want him meddling. Thorne arrived Gryffen's house with two CCPC's carrying a box which contained the Virtual Reality encasement suit Gryffen asked June about. Thorne refused to answer K9's question saying it's official Department business. He claimed him and June agreed to assist Gryffen on his trip to the fallen angel and the suit was to help him get over his phobia. Thorne assured Gryffen that it was perfectly safe and that the encasement suit passed the highest level security tests. K9 was not confident, Thorne said it was designed to make you feel indoors when you're not, the Department were very proud of it and had put a lot of work into it. Gryffen asked if K9 could come instead, Thorne reminded him he was obliged to furthur scientific work the Department as it was in his contract. Gryffen put on his suit, Thorne said he would be travelling with him along with a small security team and that he'd see to it personally he's safe and sound. A CCPC grabbed Gryffens arm as went go out, when Thorne smiled at K9 and Darius this made Darius suspicious. As they left the house, Gryffen paniced and protested as the two CCPCs pulled him out. It was soon revealed June never agreed anything with Thorne when she arrived at the house and that she considered the plan extremely dangerous. Thorne, Gryffen and the CCPCs arrived at the crash site, Gryffen took a look at minor details while Thorne told him to get on with his work. Gryffen found the stabiliser in a puddle of slime, he reached through and grabbed it. He confirmed to Thorne it matched the structure of the STM perfectly. Thorne told him to bring it out and they'll leave. As Thorne and the CCPCs went, Gryffen spotted something of interest. Thorne demanded to know what Gryffen was doing, Gryffen said he found empty pods. Thorne arrived and says it was none of his business, he warned him to come out before he had him dragged out. Gryffen gave in as there was nothing in there anyway. Thorne corrected him and said only one is empty but was shocked to find they were all empty, Gryffen asked him if he didn't know they where empty. Thorne says of course he did, Gryffen asked what was in them and grown impaitent. Thorne replied nothing, Gryffen warned that the "nothings" had escaped and whatever they were they were loose in the tunnels. The CCPCs took Gryffen away, unbeknownst to him and Thorne he dropped the stabiliser. Gryffen said there wad not need for this and as a respected scientist he could help him. Thorne told the CCPCs to take him back to the transport. As they took Gryffen out he demanded to know what was in the pods. Thorne said it's not for him to question and he was a scientist being payed to do whatever scientists do. Thorne ordered a Canadian CCPC to get a squadron and scour the tunnels. K9 and Starkey arrive at the base and go through the tunnels. Later on, Gryffen told Thorne he didn't have the stabiliser and he must have dropped it when the CCPCs manhandled him. Thorne said they needed the stabilser and warned him if he's playing games with him he knew the consequences. Gryffen said it must be back at the ship and he didn't know where. They were met by Starkey and K9, who had arrived at the crash site. Starkey alerted Gryffen there were Korven here. Gryffen determined that's what was in the pods and the ship and the STM was Korven technology. Gryffen warned Thorne how dangerous the Korven are, Thorne told him he had an inchling how much and it's all classified information. Starkey warned it wouldn't stay a secret for long when the Korven got out of there, Thorne said they had the situation contained. K9 warned him there were over one hundred Korven in that particular area alone. Thorne decided that they should all leave. Gryffen, K9 and Starkey were able to find the stabiliser and return home. A CCPC alerted Thorne that Gryffen was gone and that Starkey had the stabiliser. (K9TV: Angel of the North)
Thorne was on station at the Department Mobile HQ when the Last Precinct took over Gryffen Manor. Standing by June as she spoke to it's leader, Sgt. Harry Pike. June was shocked when Pike revealed that alien technology was being used in the CCPCs although Thorne dismissed him as mad. Pike then had a CCPC pass an infection to a squad of four CCPCs on a rescue mission, so they would be under the Last Precinct's control. However, they acted on their own intent and decided to start the subdugation of humanity. They attacked the Department Mobile HQ, where Thorne noted that it wasn't meant to go like this yet. This shocked June, but little did she know, the right time Thorne was referring to was the Korven invasion. When the threat was defeated, Thorne refused to accept K9's suggestion that his anti-virus must be relayed through CCPC com central, asking June why they should trust a Cyborg. June, however, told Thorne that right now the only person she didn't trust was him and that they were going to have a long debrief about what he done to the CCPC. Thorne later taunted Pike before he was arrested, though K9 warned him to treat Pike with the respect he deserved or there would be consequences. (K9TV: The Last Precinct)
Thorne soon succeeded in acquiring K9's regeneration unit, he came to Darius with a proposal, showing a false virtual reality simulation of his father, Harry Pike, growing mad in prison of pure white, promising that his imprisonment would be more pleasant if Darius asked K9. As June would later reveal to Darius, Pike was safely in a minimum security facility. Thorne had his own deal for K9, in exchange for the regeneration unit, he would give him his lost memory chip. Although K9 thought it was likely that it would be a double-cross, he fell to the extremely appealing prospect of having his memory restored. They later met up with Thorne and his CCPCs and did the deal. It was revealed to be double-cross, the memory chip gave K9 a new programming imperitive. Upon encountering his target, he would initiate self-destruction. This was later revealed to be the last of the four Jixen on Earth, who was hiding in the sewer tunnels where the deal was made. The Jixen revealed to Starkey that his mission was to warn humanity of the Korven invasion, the Jixen determined that the Department had been infiltrated by the Korven when Starkey revealed K9's new imperative implanted in him. Thorne then gave then regeneration unit to Project: Trojan, his secret weapon, making it invincible. (K9TV: Hound of the Korven)
Thorne then activated K9's regeneration unit, summoning him to the Millenium Dome as K9's friends were facing a strange phenomenon in the STM which threatened the Earth. Thorne revealed that the STM was a gateway for an invasion, Thorne presented the Department's gateway connected to the STM, saying that K9 needed to stabilise it so he could launch a preemptive strike against the invades. He then showed him Trojan, a supersoldier created from the DNA of every species by the Department. When Trojan incapacitated K9, K9 was wired up to pod to start stabilising the gateway. K9 determined that Thorne was working with the invaders when he found that he was being used to create a larger portal. Starkey and Jorjie then catched up with K9 before Gryffen used the temporal stabiliser to prevent the phenomenon from destroying Earth. Thorne, however, planned for this to happen, this allowed the vanguard of the Korven pan-dimensional army, led by Lomax, to arrive. When Jorjie branded Thorne a traitor to his entire planet, he revealed that he was implanted with Meron DNA by the Korven. He revealed to Starkey and Jorjie that the Korven tried to reprogram K9 to take out Gryffen (K9TV: Mind Snap) as he was the only one who could prevent the invasion as he knew the STM's termination code. Thorne didn't worry about this as Gryffen would need to be at the Dome to deliver it, thinking Gryffen's agoraphobia would keep him from doing so. He also thought that Gryffen would never terminate the STM as he'd never see his family again. Immediately after, Gryffen gave their names to Thorne, as well as shouting out the voice-activated termination code, causing the Korven vanguard and the STM to be destroyed. An enraged Thorne ordered Trojan to kill them all, starting with K9. K9 exhausted his firepower on Trojan but had a trick up his sleeve, he cried out the Jixen battle shriek. This initially amused Thorne, who thought he was crying, but as Gryffen and Starkey revealed, he was calling the Jixen to do battle against the Meron. This caused Trojan's Jixen and Meron DNA to fight each other, turning it to a creature at war with itself. Thorne warned them to not imagine for a minute that they had seen the last of him, however, Jorjie directed his attention to Trojan, who with his final breath, collapsed on Thorne, crushing him to death. (K9TV: The Eclipse of the Korven)
Personality
Thorne was even more ruthless and easily angered than his predecessor. When Thorne discovered his Ukkan library card was stolen. He condemmed the CCPC guard to the Mortainian mines for twenty years. (K9TV: Lost Library of Ukko) He was also very persistant, refusing to obey Yssaringintinka (K9TV: Lost Library of Ukko) or giving into John's demand to be given 50 million credits. (K9TV: The Custodians) He didn't have a strong sense of humour, although he made a joke to a frustrated Yssaringintinka, (K9TV: Lost Library of Ukko) he noted that a later joke was the only humourous thing he'd say in his life, which he unfortunately "wasted" on a Department Technician, who didn't get the joke.
