Hutchinson was a school bully in 1913 and best friend of Jeremy Baines. He frequently tormented Tim Latimer, usually by forcing the younger student to do his homework for him. He was particularly quick to call Tim a coward during both military drills and the real-life conflict with the scarecrows. Ironically, however, Tim would eventually save Hutchinson on the field of battle during World War I. Because the Doctor's fob watch had afforded Tim a glimpse into his own future, he was able to know the precise moment he needed to get both himself and Hutchinson out of the way of an enemy artillery round.
