Reverend Ernest Matthews travels from Oxford to Gabriel Chase durin the events of Ghost Light. He is not a beliver in evoltion but in the creation theory. He constantly argues with The Doctor calling his theories ridiculous. He also argues with Josiah owner of the house who unknown to Matthews is an alien. While arguing Josiah gets angry and feeds Ernest bananas by som means these turn him into an ape.
