Publisher's summary
The Seventh Doctor and Ace are on the trail of a monster that not only knows their every move but appears to be able to anticipate their actions too. The head of the far right New Britannia party survives an assassination attempt, but the Doctor suspects there is far more to the affair than the failed slaying of a politician. As he and Ace fight their way through the prejudices which blind everyone touched by a very particular monster, they face the prospect of the entire world being plunged into a bitter war of mistrust and mutual loathing...

References
- Several references are made to the Doctor's past involvement with UNIT. UNIT appears to have been particularly lax with the Doctor's file of late – besides a well connected source like Roderick Allingham having acess to it, students Walter Jacobs and Stephen Keyser have also seen a copy.
- Roderick Allingham, New Britannia's media manager, worked for Department C19 for many years.
- The Doctor has several melancholy moments during this adventure, musing at one point that he is so old he fears nothing now, apart from the fear of Ace's death – which nearly happens when she is shot by the terrorist faction, United Front.
- Ace's full name is given as Dorothy McShane, the surname given to her in Kate Orman's NA: Set Piece.
- Ace contacts (and meets) an old friend from Perivale: Paul Tanner.
Notes
- The cover of The Fearmonger was the first to be designed by future Doctor Who Magazine editor and DVD cover designer Clayton Hickman. The "fist" motif was inspired by one on a Tom Robinson album.
