Rio de Janeiro, or Rio, was a city on Earth, in South America.
During her travels with the Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond wanted to see Rio de Janeiro in the year 2020. She dressed for the warm climate, but was disappointed to find herself almost 6000 miles off course when the TARDIS materialized in Cwmtaff, Wales, at the site of Nasreen Chaudhry's historic drilling operation.
