EastEnders was a television show broadcast in the United Kingdom, Earth, during the late 20th century and the 21st century. In summer 2007, with the new "ghost" craze sweeping the planet, one of the killed-off characters, Dennis Watts, was brought back to the show in ghost form, utilizing one of the ghosts that materialized during that period, later to be revealed as a new form of Cyberman. Behind the scenes

Cross-overs with Doctor Who

• Though other stories portray EastEnders as a television soap, the Brief Encounter story Mistaken Identity by Gary Russell and the Doctor Who mini-episode Dimensions in Time cross over EastEnders with the Doctor Who Universe. The line in First Frontier by David A. McIntee seeks to dismiss this last adventure as imaginary.
• In the comic Tooth and Claw, the Eighth Doctor refers to "Albert Square", the location of the series (although he might have meant another Albert Square).
• The Doctor seemed to have a penchant for dreaming about Earth UK soap operas, as he also had a dream about Coronation Street. (ST: Christmas Special)

Shared production team

Barry Letts, Graeme Harper, Michael Ferguson and Michael E. Briant have directed for EastEnders. The Smugglers and The Underwater Menace director Julia Smith co-created the series.

Simon Winstone served as Script Editor on Doctor Who for part of Series 1 and 3, co-wrote Where Angels Fear. He worked as the editor on the Virgin Bernice Summerfield New Adventures books, and as a Script Editor on EastEnders.

Acting crossovers

Numerous actors from EastEnders have appeared on Doctor Who over the years, most notably the Dimensions in Time special which features several actors from the series playing their EastEnders characters. Michelle Ryan, who played Christina de Souza in DW: Planet of the Dead became well known on EastEnders before moving on to Bionic Woman in the US and her appearances on Doctor Who and Merlin in the UK. Robert Jezek,who played Zbrigniev in Battlefield and Frobisher and other roles for Big Finish Productions, appeared in EastEnders as Tasha's Dad. Tracy O Brian was in Army of Ghosts and Doomsday, the final episodes of Series 2. Most recently, Nina Wadia played Ramsden in The Eleventh Hour.
