Ribosians were a race of near-humans native to Ribos. They seemed identical to humans. They were a relatively primitive species, having a Class 3 society protected by the forces of the Alliance. Hence they were not aware that life existed off their planet.
Culture
The Ribosians had a vaguely medieval-European culture. Possibly ruled under some sort of monarchy, Ribosians had several crown jewels which were guarded by Shrivenzales and Shrieves and were greatly revered.
Ribos had an elliptical orbit around its sun and only two seasons: Icetime and Suntime, each of which lasted approximately thirty-two Levithian years; the Ribosians believed that the Ice Gods and Sun Gods were fighting for control of the world. They believed that Ribos was flat and if they walked far enough they would fall off.
They also believed that the stars were ice crystals and that there were no other planets. Anyone who didn't believe this was tortured as a heretic. The Ribosians also believed in the Seekers, a group of women who appeared to have various clairvoyant powers. (DW: The Ribos Operation)
- The accuracy of the Seeker suggests that they had actual psychic powers, specifically clairvoyancy and precognition.
Technology
Though they generally used simple weaponry like spears, and had yet to invent the telescope, the Ribosians invented a type of cannon and used a type of currency called Opeks.
- The Graff Vynda-K and Garron both referred to their payments in Opeks. Possibly, they converted their own currency to the Ribosian one, or the Opeks were brought to Ribos previously.
