The Valky Clan were an aquatic people from the planet Shakara. They bred the Zaralok, a type of giant armoured shark, as a weapon against an enemy with whom they were at war. The Zaralok turned on their creators, eating them as well as their enemies. (VG: Shadows of the Vashta Nerada)
