A jaguar was an Earth mammal native to at least South America. A large, wild cat, it was apparently hostile to humans. The Second Doctor, John and Gillian once put a jaguar into a trap in the hopes of harassing any men that happened to fall into the trap. This "jaguar trap" was a part of a larger scheme to defend one village against another. (TVC: The TARDIS Worshippers)
