For the animated story featuring the tenth Doctor, see Dreamland (TV story).

Dreamland was the final release for the Sarah Jane Smith audio stories produced by Big Finish Productions.

Publisher's summary

Having lived a life of adventure as a traveller in time and space, returning to a quiet life on present day Earth was never going to be easy. Ex-journalist, Sarah Jane Smith is determined to make a difference in her own way. Fiercely independent, Sarah relies on her own wit, judgement and keen sense of morality to challenge the evils of the world. Life is never quiet for long. Trouble has a habit of finding Sarah -- even when she’s not looking for it.

Sarah Jane Smith is still dealing with the tragic consequences of recent events when she is offered the chance of a lifetime -- a place on the world’s first tourist flight into space. The trip’s sponsor, Sir Donald Wakefield, believes it is her destiny. But after her recent experiences, what does Sarah still believe in?

Notes

  • This story ends on a (pretty big) cliff hanger for Sarah Jane Smith. However this would turn out to be the final episode of this particular series of audio dramas. This is because later in the same month that Dreamland was released, Elisabeth Sladen returned as Sarah Jane in the Doctor Who episode, School Reunion, followed shortly thereafter by her own spin-off TV series, The Sarah Jane Adventures; neither directly follows the continuity of the audio series. However, they do tie in, as K9 is in the boot of Sarah Jane's car, broken and not working, while Sarah Jane hasn't moved on from her time with the Doctor.

Continuity

  • This is the first space tourism flight, which may place it in the same period as EDA: Escape Velocity which features the beginnings of private space operators.
  • Some time after this adventure Sarah Jane, having attempted to repair K9 and failed, took to carrying K9 around in the boot of her car, which she replaced with a Nissan Figaro by the time of 2008-09
