Boukon was a large, desert world. When oil was discovered underneath the surface, Oil Core began drilling Boukon, as Earth had been drained of oil in the 40th century.
Large, mobile Oil rigs drained the oil beneath the sands. Captain Kaliko and her crew on the Black Gold also wanted the oil, by bringing down the rigs using ropes, as they and others like them couldn't afford Oil Core's prices.
Boukon had three suns, two artificial, warming up the planet. The artificial ones were most likely placed there to warm the surface and enable Oil Core to have easy access to the oil. (DW: The Infinite Quest)
