The Elemental Shades were living shadows. In the 1970s, a Elemental Shade escaped the Howling Halls and was tracked down by the Tenth Doctor to the home of Elton Pope and his mother where he eventually stopped it, though not before it had killed her. (DW: Love & Monsters)
