The sonic probe was a device used by a future Amy Pond. It had the ability to re-wire the Handbots. The Eleventh Doctor took control of it to help bring the two Amys together. When he did, Amy admitted it was a sonic screwdriver. (TV: The Girl Who Waited)
The Sixth Doctor once referred to his sonic screwdriver as a sonic probe when he said "My sonic probe has an illuminated tip." (AUDIO: Apocalypse Element)
