Rio de Janeiro, or Rio, was a city in South America on Earth.
During her travels with the Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond wanted to see Rio de Janeiro in the year 2020. She dressed for the warm climate, but was disappointed to find herself almost six thousand miles off course when the TARDIS materialised in Cwmtaff, Wales, at the site of Nasreen Chaudhry's drilling operation.
