Christopher "Kit" Marlowe was an English poet. He was the greatest Elizabethan tragedian writer before William Shakespeare. The Doctor makes passing reference to Marlowe being either gay or bisexual, and that the Doctor would be willing to make a pass at him if the situation called for it. Marlowe flirted extensively with Steven.

History recorded that Marlowe died in 1593, but this was a fallacy due to Marlowe's being abducted by aliens attempting to sabotage the Armageddon Convention. He actually died in 1609 in a duel.
