Alice Dubrovnik
Professor Alice Dubrovnik was an engineer on the Pollyanna. She created the Graviton Inverter, a device that flips gravitational force, allowing the ship to fly. She was among the expedition to circumnavigate the sun, and helped the Twelfth Doctor battle the Umbra.
Biography
When Alice was working on the Graviton Inverter, she was funded by Rudy Zoom, the egotistical quadrillionaire. He later used the devise on the sun ship Pollyanna, and Alice joined him on his expedition to circumnavigate the sun in order to maintain it.
While working on the Pollyanna, Alice became close with the security chief Florence Dell but frequently conflicted with Harriet Wilcox. On one such occasion, Alice shouted at Harriet for tapping into her energy feed that she was using to run the Graviton Inverter. During this argument, Georgia Butler was posessed by the Umbra and opened the airlock. Georgia and Harriet were vaporized instantly, but Harriet pushed Alice back in time for the door to automatically shut, breaking a tendon in her left leg but saving her life. The door soon opened again with the Umbra stood behind it. She tried to escape, but was tripped by one of its tentacles. As it pulled her back, she screamed for help, and the Twelfth Doctor appeared in front of her. He used his sonic screwdriver to close the door on it, then slung her over his shoulder and ran.
Once they were a safe distance and had shut the door behind them, he put her down. The Doctor was unsympathetic towards her guilt for Harriet's death, and instead asked how they could seal the plasma intakes that the creature had entered the ship through. She then contacted the flight deck and informed Zoom and Captain Rashida Dhawan of Harriet and Georgia's deaths. The Doctor and Alice tried to persuade them to close all plasma intakes and abort the mission.
The Umbra then caught up with them and opened the doors, forcing the Doctor to pick her up and run. Chief Dell and two of her officers then blocked their path, mistakenly thinking that the Doctor had kidnapped Alice. The creature then slithered around the corner and grabbed Florence, and despite the best efforts of the others, she was dragged into it. Alice then watched in horror as the another creature split off from the original bearing the likeness of Florence. It then spoke, saying that it "drank her mind and ate her form". The Doctor shot at the pipes on the wall, showering the Umbra in liquid nitrogen and allowing the four survivors to escape.
Alice took the Doctor to see the Graviton Inverter, thinking it would be the safest place on the ship. The Umbra then swarmed the Pollyanna, rocking it violently and making the Doctor and Alice hold on for their lives. (COMIC: The Eye of Torment)
