Macrinus was a robot. He wanted to help the Eighth Doctor and Lucie Miller escape the cannibalists. They wanted to find the reset switch to stop the cannibalist. They[who?] sacrificed their lives in order to make sure that the Doctor and Lucie could get to the reset switch. (AUDIO: The Cannibalists)
