Psilocybe mexicana were hallucinogens known to the Aztecs as teonanacatl or "the flesh of the gods". They were easily available in Tenochtitlan in 1487. The Doctor consumed the mushrooms in an attempt to see the Blue. (NA: The Left-Handed Hummingbird)
