Rowenna Michaels was an 20th century archaeologist.

Two years prior to her encounter with the Tractites, she was shot in the spine, paralysing her from the waist down and necessitating the use of a wheelchair. In spite of her disability, she continued her archaeological work with Julie Sands. While conducting research in Kilgai, Tanzania, the two discovered several human skulls, which they discovered to be unusually old. The pair were interrupted by Jacob Hynes, who shot Michaels and kidnapped her and Sands with the help of the Tractite Gavril, infecting them with the Tractites' virus.

Along with Jo Grant, Jacob Hynes and Julie Sands, she was accidentally transported to Earth's distant past by a time tree. There she and Sands met the Eighth Doctor, who gave them an antiviral medicine to hold off the effects of the Tractites' virus long enough to get them to The TARDIS. However, the Doctor was attacked by Kitig while searching for the escaped Hynes, and in his absence the two archaeologists were killed by wild dogs. (PROSE: Genocide)
