Certain prisons were big asteroids that could contain intelligences known as Prisoners. They were used to contain the Prisoners while flying around in space for all eternity with the Prisoners inside.
In the event that the Prisoner died, the prison would latch on to the nearest guilty being and try to drag it inside. (TV: Detained)
