Robert was a member of a crew of a submarine which suddenly appeared in space. He knew the answer to one of Romana II's questions before she even asked it. He transformed into a creature that attacked the ship. This was because he was one of Dethras' experiments. He developed telepathy through close contact with the Fourth Doctor. (AUDIO: Dethras)
