Talk:Remembrance of the Daleks (TV story)

I just removed a bunch of "goofs" items that misunderstand things that seem fairly obvious. Perhaps the most glaring was claiming the Doctor mistook Gilmore for the Brigadier; all we see is that he mistook him for a Brigadier. That's a rank, not a specific individual!

Impossible timeframe.

So "The Dalek Invasion of Earth" is c2164. The Doctor mentions that "The Daleks" was AFTER that. Then, we see Thals in "Planet of the Daleks" which is the 26th century, and they state that "The Daleks" was "generations ago". In "Destiny of the Dakleks" the Thals are no longer on Skaro, while the Daleks are returning(Planet mentioned they ahd been driven off Skaro by the 26th century). Davros is in "Destiny.". "Resurrection of the Daleks" is after "Destiny" and features 2 timelines. The "present", where Earth has spaceflight(and must be after both "Destiny" per Davros) and 1984, where the Daleks and their allies travel BACK in time to. Then, in 1963 comes "Remembrance of the Daleks". This is clearly AFTER both "Resurrection" and "Revelation of the Daleks", yet there is no time travel(excluding The Doctor and Ace). In fact, The Doctor even says to Ace about how the Daleks may be evil but they wouldn't screw with the timeline. In other words, Davros and his Dalejks would attack Earth at the time, NOT in the past. But "Planet" is the 26th century, then "Destiny" is after that, "Resurrection" is after that, "Revelation" is after that, and "Remembrance"is after THAT. How the f*ck can it be 1963?

Alternate timeline. It never happened. Perhaps in that timeline that was the invasion which, in ours, took place in the 22nd century.Boblipton talk to me 15:45, November 2, 2011 (UTC)

It should also be noted that there are strong implications that there indeed was time travel involved in "Remembrance" other than just the Doctor and Ace. The Daleks have a Time Controller, the Doctor talks about them not wanting to alter time (how would this be a factor if they weren't time travelling?), and of course there is the line referenced in the questin below (stating that the Hand is "entering Skaro time zone"). That should resolve some of the concern raised above.Spreee talk to me 14:12, July 14, 2012 (UTC)Spreee
Both dalek factions have time travel, and both have already travelled to the past before we join the story. This is because they know when and where the Hand of Omega is. They want the stellar manipulator, they are not there to attack the Earth.165.225.76.55talk to me 17:13, November 19, 2018 (UTC)

Was Skaro destoyed or not

How could it be destroyed in 1963 yet still be around in episodes that take place after that? --206.177.43.71talk to me 18:50, July 12, 2012 (UTC)

There's been a good amount of discussion on that point over the years. Before Skaro is destroyed, one of the Daleks tracking the Hand of Omega states that it is "entering Skaro time zone". The implication seems to be that it has time-travelled (not too surprising for a Time Lord device), presumably to the point in time that this batch of Daleks came from. The story would indicate then that Skaro was indeed destroyed, but in some point in the far future, not in 1963. Spreee talk to me 15:35, July 13, 2012 (UTC)Spreee
Speculation. OS25 (talk to me, baby.) 17:21, July 13, 2012 (UTC)
Sure, but I'm not proposing that we add anything more to the page about it, simply answering the question. The reference to "entering Skaro time zone" sure seems to indicate something related to time travel is going on at that moment, and it doesn't narratively make sense to be anything else other than the Hand. So, it's a reasonable conclusion, but not anything I'd advocate stating as fact on this wiki. Spreee talk to me 14:01, July 14, 2012 (UTC)Spreee
Here's a few quotes from the novelization of this episode
  1. Here, twenty millennia ago, the final conflict between the Thals and Kaleds had ended.
  2. For a fragment of non-time, time was irrelevant and distance was a delusion. On the fringes of the Skarosian system the Hand of Omega became part of the normal universe.
  3. Through it all passed the Hand of Omega, screaming its mirth. Then it shot back into the place that is no place on its way back to the past.

This woould seem to imply that Skaro was destroyed in the future. -- Loyal Companion

Details?

There are several major details left out, but I haven't seen the episode for a long time. Should someone update it? 184.45.24.39talk to me 20:14, April 20, 2013 (UTC)

Serial

Shouldn't this be put in serial format? It isn't here divided into parts... 184.45.111.34talk to me 23:23, April 22, 2013 (UTC)

If no one else gets to it, I will take care of it when I get to that story, but I'm only on Colin Baker right now. Shambala108 02:18, April 23, 2013 (UTC)

Error on page.

There is a problem with the section that reads "Dr. Rachel Jensen wears black high heel shoes throughout the serial. In Part Four, when she, the Doctor, Ace, Gilmore and Allison are inside the Dalek shuttle, she appears to be bare footed. When all five characters exit the shuttle, she suddenly has her shoes back on again." In the scene mentioned, Dr. Jensen has her shoes in her hands, which makes this section superfluous. I am uncertain if protocol is to remove the section or add a note. Could someone take the appropriate action? 98.192.49.162talk to me 05:23, March 2, 2014 (UTC)

Devising The Device

"The Doctor constructs a device to disorientate the Imperial Daleks to rescue Ace, stating that he "rigged something like it on Spiridon". (TV: Planet of the Daleks)"

No he doesn't. He constructs it after planning to contain the daleks to let them destroy each other. He only finds out Ace needs rescuing after he has finished construction.165.225.76.55talk to me 17:09, November 19, 2018 (UTC)

Body Of Evidence

"Also, Mike's body clearly comes to rest on the stairs, but he is later shown to be on the floor in front of the stairs." No it doesn't. When he falls against the stairs, the bannisters smash, and his body immediately starts to roll sideways off the stairs. He is then briefly shown on the floor by the stairs. Later on we get the longer shot mentioned above, where his body is in the same position.165.225.80.75talk to me

Date placement

I understand that Remembrance of the Daleks is set somewhere in 1963. But I'm curious what evidence there is regarding making a more specific claim... There seems to be a lot of confliction here. The page on 1963 states Remembrance as late October. But here on this page, the myths section states that there is a calendar in the story that illustrates it as being set in November? One of the categories for this page is Stories set on 23 November but then the infobox states 29th-30th November?

I would say that the lack of the First Doctor's TARDIS or any other items from An Unearthly Child in 76 Totter's Lane seems to dispute a late October placement - but where have the two other different timeframes come from? I'd quite like to see if we can come to a consensus on this? JDPManjoume 22:10, August 27, 2020 (UTC)
